This is a surprisingly good chuck. When I got it, the first thing I did was disassemble and clean it. There were no chips or grinding grit, but the oil was dirty (gritty?). The only thing this thing needs is about an hour of deburring, every edge was sharp. Using a 1 x 4" dowel pin, I was getting less than .002" runout, both at the chuck and 2-1/2" away. Perhaps not as smooth as the high-dollar chucks, but well worth the price. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24qdKJmxrks

I am an amateur, home shop machinist. I bought this chuck with the back plate and shipping included for less than $125.00, an outstanding value IMHO. The two-piece jaw configuration was a requirement and the source of some problems that may or may not affect your decision to purchase this chuck. If you purchase this chuck, be prepared to disassemble it and thoroughly clean and lubricate it. This one was FILTHY, but I expected it would be. After cleaning, a precision 0.5000 pin ran within 0.0020" TIR. , well within spec. I trued the back plate mounted on my lathe spindle (70-year-old South Bend 9-A) and turned the register boss to 0.0050" smaller than the register recess in the chuck body. The test pin repeats within 0.00050 after assembly and adjustment. Amazing IMHO! I removed the top jaws and cleaned the interfaces with the jaw base. Upon reassembly, I could not get the chuck adjusted any better than 0.015" TIR. I reground the key slot so the top jaws would actually seat properly. I will regrind the jaw faces under clamping load with a tool post grinder when I get time. In the meantime, I'm using machinable steel top jaws to hold some 2" diameter steel discs for turning, facing and boring on both faces. The chuck repeats within 0.00050" TIR with this configuration. Again, amazing. I would purchase this item again but only if I had time to do the aforementioned rework.

This chuck was stiff on arrival from leftover machining dust. I disassembled it (easy to do), cleaned all the parts, and reassembled with super lube. The unit is now nice and smooth. Accuracy with a 1/2 in pin gauge chucked is around .001", which is in the same ballpark as the lathe spindle (12x35 Grizzly), so hard to fault the chuck for this application. It was best at one location, so I put timing marks on that position. The unit has a nice range with bolt-on reversible jaws, so very handy for grabbing tubing or other hollow objects.

Very good tool, runout was only .002 thousandth installed out of box. Very good for what I use it for. Neighbor bought a 4 inch to expand centrifugal clutches , I had to machine jaws thinner for unique tool use. The 4 inch was so nice it caught my attention so I ordered a 6 inch to put on one of my small lathes.

VEVOR Metal Lathe Chuck — Strong and Reliable Tool

This metal lathe chuck is designed to give machinists a simple and dependable way to hold workpieces securely during turning, shaping, and drilling. Built like a sturdy precision lathe chuck, it offers a strong grip, accurate alignment, and a stable connection to your lathe. Whether you're machining metal, shaping wood, or working on custom projects, this chuck provides consistent performance every time. With durable materials, easy operation, and a wide clamping range, it supports both beginners and professionals in achieving smooth, accurate results.

Built Tough for Long-Term Use

This chuck, made from HT300 cast iron, is designed for strength and durability like a heavy-duty lathe chuck. The hardened jaws (≥53 HRC) and scroll plate (≥45 HRC) used as a metal lathe chuck withstand intense pressure against the re-tightening and speed of rotation. This toughness helps prevent wear and rusting, allowing for a tool that can last longer. A CNC lathe chuck is expected to possess high quality, and when combined with this feature, it then becomes a favourite tool among metalworkers, hobbyists, and machinists.

Precise Positioning Without Extra Adjustments

Your precision lathe chuck will always be accurate thanks to the self-centering feature, which doesn’t need to be calibrated repeatedly. This device will allow each jaw of the chuck to move in unison with the other jaws when connected to your metal lathe chuck, and it will automatically centre the workpiece, holding it at the centre of the lathe. This is especially advantageous to both newbies and pros looking for quick setups. Whether it’s being used as a 3-jaw chuck for metalwork or to turn small, detailed parts, you can achieve stable, clean, and accurate machining with less effort thanks to the self-centering action.

Versatile-Sized Metal Lathe Chuck for Multiple Applications

This 6-inch system is built like a flexible metal turning chuck that will grip workpieces ranging from 0.12 to 5.71 inches. With your metal lathe chuck, the 1 1/2 in-8 threaded backing plate makes a good fit for many machines. It is suitable for small to medium-scale projects and has an adequate range for woodturning, metal shaping, drilling, and more. Machinists like this flexibility because it suits many kinds of things that can be shaped, making the tool right for home workshops and commercial machine rooms.

Simple Operation for Fast Setup

The chuck has a T-wrench. This makes it easy to tighten and loosen the jaws for first-timers. Just like an easy-to-use 3-jaw chuck for metalwork, this metal lathe chuck does the job effectively for you. The small design prevents extra weight but allows for strong use. After mounting, the sequence of operations is natural, allowing the machinist to operate more freely. Because it is easy to use, downtime is reduced, making it awesome for busy shops.

Accurate Results for Different Machining Tasks

The chuck offers a consistent gripping power, whether during cutting, drilling, milling, or shaping, similar to a heavy-duty lathe chuck. It's a chuck for your metal lathe that keeps workpieces properly aligned for smooth finishes and symmetrical results. The chuck's precision makes it effective for custom metal work, wood details, and CNC-assisted activities. Due to the reduced vibration and cleaner machining outcomes, professionals find this stability valuable for tool life.

Strong Materials for Safe and Reliable Use

In addition to hardening, arrangements are made for long-term reliability from a CNC lathe chuck. If you use heavy steel weights to steady the lathe or to help maintain balance on your metal lathe chuck setup, it will stop any shifting. These protections are essential for workers whose jobs involve heavy, fast-moving tools. After even too much time, the chuck maintains and keeps gripping, meaning that machinists can have confidence in peace of mind with their machine.

Metal Lathe Chuck to Fit Most Lathes with Ease

The threaded backing plate allows it to fit many hobby and industrial machines, giving the versatility of a metal turning chuck. The convenient mounting system, when part of your metal lathe chuck equipment, supports wood lathes, metal lathes, bench top models, and selected CNC systems. This compatibility means that you do not have to buy chucks for different machines. It is a cheap way to add to your workshop without compromising stability or precision.

Reliable Performance for Beginners and Professionals

This has smooth clamping and a secure hold, which is beneficial for users of all skill levels, as it is a dependable precision lathe chuck. A uniform cut and repeatable results are assured, which is a must for Metal Workers, Turners, and repair personnel. When used with your metal lathe chuck, it creates efficiencies in any metal machining task you undertake. Whether for day-to-day usage or a complicated project, it has all the right qualities to make your tasks simpler.
