This is a huge upgrade from an optivisor for stone setting. I haven’t used a more expensive microscope so I have nothing to compare it to. The articulating arm is pretty stiff and I have to give it a really good yank to get it into position and the cable on the ring light is a little on the shorter side so I might need to extend it or get a different one. My biggest complaint is that the rubber eye guards don’t attach securely at all. I am literally knocking them off onto the floor 29 times a day or if I put the cover on and take off they will disappear so I am planning on buying some new eye guards for it. The ball vice is fine. It works for holding rings but it’s not as heavy duty as a GRS. I really waffled on buying a Leica, then an Amscope trinocular. But after receiving the Amscope , I realized that the Vevor was about a third of the price and same unit/optics minus the trinocular part. If you need to set stones and not go into debt then this is a great option and I whole heartedly recommend despite the couple of drawbacks mentioned. I own a lot of Vevor stuff (melting furnace, rotary tumbler, fume extractor) in my studio in addition to name brand stuff and Vevor hasn’t let me down yet.

I have never used a Leica or other expensive jewelers microscope, so I can’t compare it to that. But as someone who doesn’t do jewelry full time, and is using a scope for the first time, I can say that this thing is amazing. I’ve used it a couple times to set stones and view my jewelry and with the light, the image quality is great. I’m very happy with how much easier this makes the work as compared to an optivisor. If you need one, and don’t know why you need a more expensive one, then get this one and be happy.

I was fortunate enough to learn jewelry making using the Leica microscope. After leaving school, I knew I needed a microscope but not for thousands of dollars. This is a great option that has comparable quality. I will say though, the springs and the joints are a little stiff and they want to retract back quite often, but I’m sure they’ll loosen up over time. The handles that keep the joints in position could be sturdier, but it does that job. Overall great product :)

be careful screwing in the bottom lens, the threads are plastic and can risk damaging or cross threading them if its not seated correctly. spin in backwards till it drops then screw down normally> great microscope for the cost.

Overall this scope is a great value. It is definitely not as good as the more expensive rigs, but it gets probably 80% of the way there for a fraction of the cost. Here are some problems you should know about before purchase. None of them are dealbreakers, and can be pretty easily overcame. - the big one is the lead screw for mounting the microscope to the arm was not long enough on my unit. Only about 2 threads were able to grab and so I almost dropped the microscope a couple times when I went to tighten it into place and the threads slipped. I solved it by taking a 1/2 inch drill bit and drilling out a small recess for the handle to sit into so it’d have more purchase on the screw. Now it can’t get quite as tight so the head will still swivel from side to side without much force, but at least it won’t fall off the arm. - the included usb ring light has a couple issues. First the cable isn’t long enough to be ran all the way down the arm and to a power source, so you’ll need an extension cord. Second it doesn’t come with an ac adapter, so depending on your power situation you’ll have to pick one of those up too. Third the light isn’t diffused at all so it can cause some pretty nasty glare on your workpiece. Some tissue paper can be affixed to help. - The included dust cover won’t fit over both the arm and the microscope after it’s been assembled. Overall though the build quality is pretty good, with all the important parts being quality metal. The picture quality is good, and the range of zoom is good for all the work I do. The ball vise is a little cheap, but it get the job done and has a good variety of bits to let it grab whatever you need. In whole, this setup is totally worth the price, even after picking up a couple little things to make it run better.

You can spend much more money on a big name but if this is your first microscope then it’s a million times better than not having ine at all. I can see upgrading some day but this is a phenomenal value as long as you have some managed expectations. Sub $400 versus nearly $4000? The choice was easy.

The two brackets are different, you can choose according to the parameters. Another difference is that one product does not have a ring light (buy it yourself if you need it), and the other product has a ring light.
