I have the door and would like to add a solar panel. What solar panel do I buy ? Do I need rechargeable batteries? Or do I buy a inverter?

Rechargeable batteries are more convenient. You need to put the rechargeable batteries in the battery box, and then plug in the adapter to charge the batteries. Or you can buy a 9V 2A solar charging panel to charge the rechargeable batteries. Please note that the rechargeable batteries should be NiMH rechargeable batteries.

How does the timing and the light sensor work? Do you set a timer but the light sensor overrides; or do you choose one or the other for opening/closing?

Are the AA and the 27A/12Vbatteries rechargeable ? Or do they need to be replaced, and how often ?

These two batteries cannot be recharged. You can use 1.2V nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries. Plug in the adapter control board to automatically charge the 1.2V battery.
