An 180 g/m² polyester fabric with a PU coating makes up the VEVOR retractable side awning. It blocks most of the harmful UV radiation from low-angle sunlight entering through the sides rather than the tops of patios, decks, and balconies. The awning's retracting system consists of an aluminum alloy roller tube and a steel spring mechanism that keeps the fabric taut across its entire width when extended or retracted. For even tension across the roller width, the fabric retracts equally into the roller housing without bunching, uneven rolling, or slack sections appearing on one side of the screen. 

With the side-pull design, you can move the fabric in and out by pulling the free edge of the screen horizontally, rather than using a crank handle or a motorized drive system. It is easy to feel how tight the fabric is when you pull it out, and you can stop and secure the screen at any point between fully retracted and fully extended. This gives you the freedom to adjust the coverage width to match the sun's position or the area where you need privacy at any given time.

Powder-Coated Iron Frame with 2° Tilt Design to Reduce Fabric Sagging 

The main frame, flexible pole, and support post are all made of iron and powder-coated to protect them from rust and other outdoor damage. The iron construction gives the awning frame the rigidity it needs to remain stable under the lateral tension from the spring-steel retract mechanism and the fabric load across the 19.68-foot span. This keeps the frame from deflecting and the posts from leaning.

The frame has a 2° forward tilt in the support post design, creating a slight angle that helps maintain fabric tension. When the screen is up, it is 5.91 feet (1800 mm) tall and 19.68 feet (6000 mm) wide, making a big side panel that can cover most patio and deck edges in a single installation. There should be two people working on the initial mounting and frame assembly of the 39.7-pound (18-kilogram) retractable side awning, as it is a large piece of equipment. However, once the frame is in place, one person can easily extend or retract the awning.
