good but with caveat!
4.5 Ton 12.8 in
Used on front springs to MY14 Xkr. Quality is good, and worth the price . However found 2 caveats, 1) Not as Easy to compress spring to required size . Instructions state not to use an impact tool, and rightly so , so I had to use a breaker bar with pipe extension. Good luck on trying to keep the whole assy. from rotating . 2) When compressing spring enough, it began to 'Bow Out ' on opposite side of screw mechanism , this is not only dangerous but prevented me from inserting strut with boot etc. . Resolved by placing another compression tool on same side where bow occurred and compressing both at same time

Takes a bit of fear out of a scary job
4.5 Ton 12.8 in
I bought this tool to replace the struts on the coil-overs for my early 2000's Subaru. Not really wanting to end up disfigured I did the normal amount of video's and how-to's to get my head around how bad the job was going to be. I recognized that most of the accidents involving spring compressors was either a mis-match in the size of the tool for the size of the spring and/or placement issues with the tool on the spring. I ran across the Vevor tool and it appeared as it if would solve both problems. The lip on the platforms would prevent the spring from jumping off the tool and the mix-and-match sizes would ensure the correct fit. Both expectations were true. Now, using the tool is something to get used to. I would recommend you grease the lead screw well as well as grease the outside of the shaft with some sticky grease. The front springs required a scary amount of compression - the upper and lower "drifts" were maybe an inch apart. The first time you have to do this you're sweating bullets but the tool handles it well. The grease on the shaft will help you release the tension a bit more smoothly when it's time and minimizes the clicks and creaks as the tool de-tensions under load. RESIST the urge to put a power tool on the drive nut. Just use a normal 3/8" socket wrench as it's all you really need. The rear struts required significantly less compression BUT we needed to use different drifts/platforms for the upper and lower parts of the spring. It was a win having all of the options in the same case. With the inevitable mistakes you make the first time you do anything we probably had tensioned and de-tensioned the tool about 8 times before the job was done. By the fourth time around you're getting pretty familiar with the operation and you gain a lot of confidence with the tool and the procedure. There's nothing I can really fault the tool on but I wonder if there's a way to safely incorporate a bushing between the shaft and the sliding element so that the two don't bind when you're near maximum compression. There are some fret marks on the shaft that indicate there is some stiction at high compression loads. The tool comes in a good plastic case and will occupy some hidden recess of the garage until I have to do suspension work again - which is hopefully never, but you never know. I would lend it to a friend with confidence and give them this same explanation.

Works Well For Some Struts, But Not All.
4.5 Ton 12.8 in
Easy to use, and works well if you have a stut with a good number of coil spirals going round and round, like the rear struts on my 2004 Corolla. The problem is with struts like the front struts on the same Corolla. Those struts have the spring spiraling upwards only about 4 complete turns, so the yoke can only fit onto the two spring sections in the middle. This compressor will NOT work for that kind of spring. The yokes of different sizes fit perfectly onto the spring, but it needs to have a spring spiral section in between the two they are yoked to in order to work. When compressed to the maximum, it STILL isn't enough to disassemble the strut. I had to use the typical two-jackscrew compressors to get this spring compressed sufficiently. Also, this compressor must not be used with power or impact tools. It is not the kind of high-tensile strength metal to withstand that. Only use hand tools (22 mm or 7/8" socket/wrench). Additionally, you must lubricate the threaded rod each and every time you use it, even on each direction (compressing and then again for decompressing). I suggest spraying a penetrant lubricant like WD-40, then follow that with brush-on grease or spray-on lithium grease (easier than brushing). This is absolutely necessary. Ease of use and value are 5 stars. Sturdiness is 3 stars because impact tools can't be used. Versatility to be used with different kinds of springs is only 2-3 stars. Overall it's 4 stars because it does work well when it works. It also feels quite safe, unlike other compressors which are scary to use. I have included photo #1 of my rear strut, which this tool easily compressed, and photo #2 of my front strut which this tool can not sufficiently compress. See the difference in the springs to know if this tool will work for your application.
