Built like a battleship
Arrived today, and worked great almost immediately out of the box. I cut the binding off of a 150 page book first, and then cut the binding off of a 600 page text book in one shot, smooth, no problems (!). I then scanned both of these books using a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 scanner, both scanned perfectly in a single pass.PROS:- Built very solid (40 lb shipping weight!)- Does a beautiful job cutting thick books- Minimal assembly needed, except the gate crank (see below). works almost straight out of the boxCONS:- Comes with no instructionsCAVEATS / NOTES:- The gate crank comes pre-installed deliberately backwards for shipping purposes. Using the supplied hex key, you must removed this crank, and re-install it the other way around before the paper cutter can be used. There are no instructions or labels even hinting at this necessary step.- Getting a clean straight cut seems to be dependent on sufficient gate pressure, but you probably should not over-tighten the gate, because anything can break with enough force. So, it seems that the gate should be tightened as much as reasonable one-handed, but do not just wail on the gate crank with both hands at the same time.- After cutting the binding off of a book, it pays to separate the pages one-by-one before scanning, as you will probably find a page here and there still stuck together due to small variations in binding adhesive depth.- Be aware that with the 40lb shipping weight, returning this product might not be cheap. I didn't examine the return policy, but the product was not an Amazon Prime product, so it might not be a free return.Summary: 5 stars, excellent buy, excellent price, would definitely buy again.-pete

Much better than anticipated
I am delighted with this cutter. My main use is cutting the binding off of books for use in a sheet-feed scanner. For this task, this cutter is outstanding, especially relative to the cost. If you set it up well, set your alignment fence right, clamp the paper in place, the leverage and sharpness of the cutting arm is incredible. On one smaller book I actually kept pressing, not realizing the book had been cut. I hardly felt the resistance. I regularly cut books that are .75-1.0 inches thick with no problems at all. I can't yet comment on durability, but the cutter feels very heavy and solid, everything handles firmly and it feels very sturdy. If you want to cut thick stacks, this is a great cutter for that.

It cuts paper
I use this to cut the edges off journals to give them straight edges... It works well for that purpose. The blade is square with the grid but not the back stop, but that's okay because the back stop is adjustable. The measurements on the grid are off by about 1/32 so I have to account for that when I set the paper alignment thing. The model I received is slightly different from the pictures, namely the plastic dinner guard and the knob to fasten the plastic alignment thing.

Pretty impressive
This paper cutter amazingly cuts through thick stacks of paper! The measurements were 1/16" off, which adds a little headache in measuring for cutting.

Well worth the price!

Excellent paper cutter
Great equipment but it does not come with instructions. For new users of this type of paper cutter, this requires a lot of guessing. It cuts great and is surprisingly easy to use even on large stacks of paper/documents.

... all the reviews for this product and many others like it prior to purchasing
I read all the reviews for this product and many others like it prior to purchasing. One review that stuck in my mind mention in all caps several times the you can cut your finger off. I must say you would have to be some kind of special idiot to cut your finger off with this machine, it's possible I guess but you would have to be trying.I could not be happier with this. I cut hundreds of stacks every week, a stack of 300 is effortless, have not tried 400 yet but do not expect a problem. I have been using a paper trimmer for a couple years now, actually 4 of the same model because I had to replace it every 6-12 months, at $40 each they cost more than this unit and only cut 15-20 sheets at a time.Worked perfectly for me right out of the box, no adjustments. Directions are minimal but really how much do you need to know, I was up and running in 5 minutes. I do not have any reservations recommending this unit, top notch!

Each month we cut hundreds of stacks of brochures and flyers and I am always amazed at how precise and clean the cuts are
I have owned this cutter for about a year now. Each month we cut hundreds of stacks of brochures and flyers and I am always amazed at how precise and clean the cuts are. Not to mention easy to use. We had owned about half a dozen different cutters before finding this one and they were all either tedious, ineffective and utterly useless with sloppy cuts that were difficult to align and jagged edges. This manual machine is very easy to operate and after a year of use it still cuts through stacks like butter. If you own a small business and are looking for a good cutter, you can stop looking, this one is it. This is undoubtedly one of the best purchases I have made for my business!

Perfect
I thought this was too good to be true for the price. Expected it to be a scam but rolled the dice based on other Vevor reviews. Delivery was fast and it slices through stacks of paper or vellum like butter. Good purchase.
