Although the phone app isn't technically required, it actually is if you need to change any parameters, eg. fiber type. The phone app also requires the phone location before it will work, and approximate location is not enough, which is really sus. The app is also required when changing the electrodes.

Once you charge the battery this machine is ready to splice right out of the box. Others you need to calibration done not this machine. Cleaver cuts perfect and the strippers work perfect as well. This machine burns perfect to the point the day I got it I spliced with it and OTDR shot to where I needed to micro bend the fiber to find my splice location. This machine for the price you can not beat it.

I didn't use the splicer every day for work, but I work as a technician installing fiber optic internet in homes and offices. I used the splicer a couple of times a week, and after one use, it gave me an error saying that the left engine was jammed. This was very disappointing, as I had to re-run the entire cable underground, which took a lot of time. I hope that VEVOR will replace or fix the splicer that I purchased. P.S. I recommended VEVOR to many of my technicians, as I thought it was reliable. However, now I have doubts.
