No mods, works for tricky projects
The oven is great, especially for the price. I didn't do any mods at all. I looked through the vents to see there was no masking tape.I'm flowing SMP-MAX rf ports on boards that were originally made in our factory and have solder mask and graphics. I tried the stock but modifiable profile 8 and I overheated the caps and had to replace a couple of caps. I used profiles 3 and 4 and they actually work although the board still looks a little overheated (the white painted graphics are a little darker) but the caps are OK. I'm including this to show that the oven can really get hot. I want to do some more temp research with a probe and verify the profiles. Existing profiles are working for this tricky project of flowing the center pin (inside) and not burning the caps.The manual is translated literally from Chinese so it is a little funny but you can follow it. There are settings you can change "by yourself".

Works but needs to be adjusted
For the money, this reflow oven is a good value as long as you buy this with eyes wide open. It has a few things that need to be adjusted as soon as you get it, such as removing the masking tape, adding a cold junction sensor, etc. Also, do not expect that the entire drawer will reflow your PCBs. I just use the center and avoid the edges of the drawer as the heating is uneven. Do your homework first. Look up this part number and see all the guides on how to upgrade this oven to a very usable piece of equipment. You can not beat the price.

Works very well out of the box
I bought this with some trepidation after reading about some mods but there was nothing close in this price range. I also bought the 3rd party mod kit. I decided to run it up without the mods just to get a feel for it. It produced a perfect board the first try. Over two dozen boards later it is still running perfectly out of the box. For whatever reason I did not get any adverse smells and checking the boards with the microscope they look fine-the melt is good and far better than my hand soldered ones. One thing to note -- I am not doing "PC mother boards here". Usually 3x3 boards with 402, 0.5 pitch SOIC and larger. I tend to favor leaded solder paste from the syringe or stencil by Chipquik. And usually I use the "set 2" heating curve. I will keep the mod kit just in case I have a failure or want to adapt this to work from a PC but for now I am happy the way it is. What is ironic is that I could buy 4 of these for the cost of one populated board here in the US. I strongly recommend it.

Works well, Good Quality, but Requres 1 Modification
This unit is very sturdy and constructed to last. You MUST replace the inside masking tape with Kevlar high heat resisitive tape. It is well documented on Youtube and on the Internet that this mod is required. I don't know why they build it with masking tape inside. Its pretty easy mod to do. I did not do any of the other modifications others are doing and it works fine. Pick the right temperature curve for your solder paste. Don't try to do very large boards, and stick with using the middle 50% area. I've had no problems. For the money it works and you don't have to DIY building this tool from a toaster oven and an Arduino. It's well worth the money if you are doing SMD, relatively small boards and relatively low quantities.

A great addition to my lab
I got the 4 element version on recommendation from the internet. The interface is easy and the presets work really well for most of the optical smd sensor that I deploy in prototype instruments.

Great oven if fixed
This reflow oven has many problems out of the box, but if you use UnifiedEngineering's fixes for this oven, including the cold junction temperature sensor, masking tape replacement, and firmware, they can all be fixed and you are left with an amazing product that is unparalleled in value.

Works great with a little work to setup
I followed the minor mods for removing the duct tape on the insides, which took about 15 minutes. Beyond that, I haven't had to do anything else like re-flashed the firmware, updating the temperature sensors or anything crazy.So far, we've baked about 50 total boards with this unit and have been very satisfied with the results. We put a board in, press the F1 button and it starts its timed cycle. Are there some confusing menu translations? Sure.. but for $350, compared to paying an assembly house thousands, it's totally worth the money.My only recommendation for use is to run through the burn cycle one time before you bake any boards. That gets everything nice and warm on the inside and makes sure the temperature is pretty even. When we don't do that, we've found some colder spots on the board where the solder didn't fully flow.Highly recommend if you're on a budget.

Pleasantly surprised at it's performance
My first board was a prototype with about 100 SMT parts and around 800 solder joints. I used Chip Quik 63/37 no clean paste and profile #2. The board came out perfect. If the machine is cold, I sugest running a profile with no board to get the machine warmed up. There are also many Youtubes showing how to improve the machine if that's what you want.

Gets the job done - with a few modifications
Not bad to start - works - gets hot enough. Made the modifications suggested, new firmware, replaced the paper tape, cold junction compensation. Then ran it probably 20 times to get it calibrated then created a profile for the board I had and it worked out very well. As a rule of thumb with this oven, before running a real board run an empty cycle and start from a consistent temperature. I always start at 50C. You gotta get all the parts hot if you have any chance of hitting the benchmarks. 100% recommend the new firmware if you do anything at all.
