I'd give it 1 star for the instruction manual. So far, 4 stars for performance. The instructions have extremely poor grammar and are confusing. I'd love to re-write them for them. For those stating theirs is malfunction because of taste or brown water, etc. Most likely it's working just fine. Some minerals in water change when heated, hence the reason for the charcoal filter to help remove the residual taste. It helps. Your tap water may look clear, but it contains minerals, etc. The instruction manual lists the charcoal filter (pouch) in the package contents, but I could not find it mentioned anywhere in the instructions. I missed the photos on Amazon that showed where to place the pouch (and that it even used the pouch), thankfully I came back on Amazon to search. Product descriptions shows that it will hold 1.1 gal, but it does NOT produce a gallon of distilled water, at least mine does not. Also, they list measurements in ml only, would be nice for metric and standard. Did I mention the manual? Wow is it bad. lol.
