Can I hook up either a standard U.S. garden hose or 1/4 inch irrigation hose to the bottom faucet? I can't tell if I'll need additional adaptors to do so.

i had to modify a connection to accept my Pex piping used to water the garden.

You can’t. You would need to jerry-rig something with other parts. All I can do with it is fill a watering can.
