Can the drop in plate sit on top of a wood surface and not get hot enough to cause a fire? I want to set it on top of a large wooden spool instead of having it “drop on”.

No, it cannot be placed directly on the surface of the wood, the insulation pad must be placed on top of the wood.

Where does the igniter get installed in this pan? There is a cutout for it, however its outside the flame so it doesnt light

To fill with volcanic stones or glass beads, the igniter can be equipped with a package 6789. The pressure reducing valve and nozzle can be equipped with a package 2 or 5.
