I haven't tried, but I don't see why they couldn't. It would probably be best done with a fine-toothed saw, I can't see a utility knife working.

Yes you could cut them shorter. However, you would lose the ability to connect another piece in the future to the cut end. They are hard rubber so you would want a good saw and blade to get through it.

They are rubber cable protectors. They are meant to be chained together using the interlocking ends. You can cut these just as you could cut anything else rubber, but they are not designed to be used in that way.

They are very heavy. We had no problem with it.

There are holes in the corners. Once they are lined up if you're on concrete, you can screw them into the concrete. And if you're on dirt or rock, you can use a metal spike (gutter nail would work) to drive down through the holes.
