I bought this for using it on a 2x6 board! The 2x6 is milled down to 5 1/2 inches and the guide won’t fit! Do I need to ruin a dimensional piece of wood just to make this thing fit?

This has nothing to do with the wood board. The size of the wood board you can cut is determined by your chainsaw. If your chainsaw is too small, you will definitely not be able to cut a large wood board.
