Yes there needs to be extra paper to wrap around the thin piece of metal creating the button. It comes with a not so very good 1.25" circle cutter. I suggest getting a circle hole puncher somewhere between the sizes of 1.25-1.5"
No, the mylar seals everything to the backing. I put one time word on a backing and just sealed with mylar. Worked fine, obviously with just a silver background.
