Depends on what you're doing with it. If you're trying to use it for the house, yes, you need a control box. If you're using it strictly for manual irrigation all you need is a standard switch to turn it on and off when needed.

This water pump has the capacitor inside the water pump. You only need to connect the black, white and green wires to the L1, L2 and ground wires of the power supply. No need to use a control box.
