I like de open drum
By Barbara Carmen
the open drun lets you keep an eye on the cable inside, it can get twisted tight, this machine works pretty good

Open is easier to clean and keep lubricated

It is simply a matter of preference. I have never had an enclosed snake so I cannot compare the two. The one that I have though does the trick for me. I am not a contractor. I purchased simply for home use.

I've never used enclosed drum so I can't really say. All I can really say is to keep the drum close to pipe your working on or else you could end up with twisted mess with fingers caught in it, between drum and pipe, be prepared to remove foot from start/stop pedal/pad then slowly roll drum backwards/opopsite dirction to unwind twist. Keep loose fitting clothing clear as it can get caught in that twist as well like pant legs on jeans.
