Is it designed to prevent breaking itself if you try to extend past the 4" stroke length? or will it ruin the seals?

The total stroke is 100mm. It does not matter if the stroke exceeds the limit, as it will not damage the seal ring. However, the over-stroke will cause more damage to the inner spring.
