Can these be glued to the bottom of ceiling joist? The joist are pine spaced every 16 inches on center and would be glued to the 4" side..

You should not glue these PVC tiles directly to open 16" OC joists, as the lack of full-surface support will lead to sagging and exposed, unattached seams. For a proper installation, first cover the joists with drywall/plywood to glue against, or install a drop-in ceiling grid. Can these be glued to the bottom of the ceiling joist? If so what is recommended adhesive

You can purchase the necessary adhesive at a local hardware store—either regular glue or structural adhesive will work.
