can you cut the sections to size?

You could cut it. It's just plastic. The trench part is thinner than the top grate. Keep in mind that there are fittings on each end to link them together and cap one end. They don't snap together though so I still had to glue them.

Can they be cut to specific length and can i connect the pipe to the one, not the bottom or side?

I have cut one, but the material is brittle. Joint with epoxy.

I would think you could cut it to length wanted. Regarding connecting end to pipe. I did but also needed to use the black tape that is an accessory to the black drainage pipe. The tape was located with the pipe at Home Depot.
