It isn't clear whether the three wire heating cable includes a temperature sensor or not. If it doesn't what sensors are recommended. If it does, what is the wiring diagram for the cable (colors->function)? The Thermostat instructions assume that the heating cable is two wire and the thermostat is a separate 2-wire probe, which is not what is supplied.

Hello Jim. The Thermostat has NTC which is tempeerature sensor. The yellow one is the ground wire, so it doesn't need to be connected to the thermostat. The temperature in the space range detected by the thermostat, if a separate sensor line is installed, it detects the temperature of the cable.

What is the big black heat shrink piece and does it go in the floor

It goes in the floor, and the black marks are the soldering points with loop wires inside.
