Would it work to mount this on the ceiling? Hard to tell looking at the pictures of the bracket.

Not impossible but can be done. The wall bracket provided with the fan allows. The fan bracket to be easily rotated if needed. By securing the fan bracket to the ceiling, you will not be able to rotate the fan very easily But you will still be able to adjust the fan angle up and down by tilting the fan. I hope this helps.

If it loses power, will it come back on at same speed ?

We have not experienced a power outage since we’ve had the new fan. I’m thinking it would but cannot say for sure. We are very happy with it in either case.
