When I put the cable into the drain am I supposed to push it manually into the drain and have it on #2 and then when I retrieve it am I supposed to pull it out and feed it into the machine and have it on #1?

This product is manual. The spring needs to be moved in and out manually. The function of the motor is to drive the spring to rotate, which has a dredging effect.
