This depends on the operation. The polishing of horizontal or vertical surfaces should be no problem. The edges and corners are more difficult and not suitable.
Is there adequate tension on the sanding belt to use on leather/stacked leather knife and axe handles.
I'd imagine using an aggressive grit to remove the leather flaps then a higher grit for smoothing it over.
