I don’t think it would fall in because of the handles, but I purchased one that was 2 inches wider than my burning barrel.

I had a 36-in fire pit galvanized ring and I bought it for that but I had to put brackets on the ring itself so it didn't fall in so it was stable because they were both exactly the same size. But after the brackets it worked great
