What type of thin set do you recommend I use for installation? Modified or unmodified mortar?

I just received two, I want to install slate veneer on it, not tile . Does this create any issues if someone where to step on it?

How do you affix this to the cement board floor? Just use regular thin set or some other type of adhesive ?

I used the same thinset that I used for the tiles and it worked perfectly. I can’t remember what size trowel I used for the application but I believe I used 1/8 V trowel due to the surface area that contacts the floor.
