You can use a hooked utility blade or a standard straight utility blade will do. I started with the axial cut, same direction of wire then I cut the circumference. This way I can pul back the wire sheath as I go to see if I am cutting too deep. I suggest you go slow. You can always trim off more , you can add back on what you have cut off.
