Can you use it to locate wires in walls
Yes, it can be used to locate wires in walls.

Can it detect a single broken wire in plastic conduit?
Yes. However, the detection depth cannot be that deep. It is estimated to be around 30cm, and the depth will be different depending on the soil quality.

Can this be used to locate a break in 120 to 240 volt ac wires with the power off
When detecting cables, the cables cannot be charged. As long as the depth is within 3ft, cables without shielding layers can be detected. Some cables have signal shielding layers, which will weaken the signal strength of the underground cable locator, making the detection depth unable to reach the ideal state.

I am tracing the wires in a lawn sprinkler system. Is the difference between the 3 ft and the 6 ft unit sensitivity or are there other differences?
3 ft = basic shallow sprinkler tracing (usually sufficient) 6 ft = stronger signal + deeper/longer-range detection, not just “more sensitive”

I have an electrical wire that appears to be shorted to ground or the metal conduit. The wire is buried outside under ground. As i trace the wire with the probe should the signal end where it's shorted.
The signal will weaken if the cable cannot be detected. The circuit used to locate the cable must be de-energized. Here is a link to a demonstration video that you can use: https://s.vevor.com/bfQ1L0 If this response does not resolve your issue, please contact us again for assistance.
