Could this be used for home condiments to put on salads? It says spices, so I'm thinking it might be too small for olives, pickles, onions, etc.

Yes, but for putting olives and onions, if you think the 1/9 pot is a bit too small, it is recommended that you order a 1/6 pot or a 1/3 pot.
