Can I control the temperature from the shower directly or do I need to adjust the temperature via the temperature knob in the boiler ? I’m a bit confuse on this.

If your shower has a mixing valve, you can adjust the temperature using the mixing valve. If you don't have a mixing valve, you can adjust the temperature using the knob on the water heater.
