I use it on a hard plastic folding table, with nothing underneath of the feet of the press and do not have any issues with the heat affecting the table. I use the press up to 375 degrees. But I would suggest using your own judgement based on the surface the press will be sitting on. But again, with my experiences using the table I mentioned, I have not had any issues.

Nope mine is set up on a stainless steel table but I would be comfortable setting it up on my kitchen table or countertop.
