Good question, I tried this exact thing with it last week, and with it set on it's distill setting (which is 108C) it actually comes out clearner at 2 PPM. and with the setting on 100C my TDS Meter shows 12 PPM. As reference I tested multipled distilled water bought in a gallon jug and it gives me a 0 each time... yes ZERO PPM. While almost any bottled water I have tested with my meter gives me 25 PPM (regardless of brand)

Higher temperatures have faster water production but it may do something to the water if it’s too hot, I’m not sure. Lower temperatures are slower production but it feels like the water is better quality

The dust cap is placed on the top of the plastic bottle opening to prevent dust from entering when collecting distilled water.

It is a manual reset switch for the machine's thermal overload safety system, which triggers when the unit gets too hot. The distiller automatically shuts off once the water runs dry to prevent the stainless steel tank from burning or warping. The carbon filter is basically for remove certain chemicals, particularly organic chemicals, from water. I only use this machine to create water for my bedroom humidifier. I don’t drink it.
