I took all the info and a picture of the mailbox into our local postoffice and had the local postmaster approve it which is what the USPS web site says you should do if it isn't one of the few very expensive USPS preapproved mailboxes. The letter slot is at the right height to meet their requirements, but you need to be sure that when you install it, you don't change that. The required height for the letter opening is 41" to 44" from the installation surface for our rural delivery.

Yes, I took a picture down to our local rural Post Office here in North Idaho and they were very, very impressed. The challenge is getting your postal carrier to get off of their butt or drive down your driveway (if you have a drive way away from the road) and have them use it. However one of the encouragements you can use is talking to your Post Master General and let them know that if they do not use your official box you will contack companies using USPS and have all of your parcels changed from USPS to either UPS or FEDEX.
