Two large screws for each bracket. Had mine for over a year and it is still sturdy and tight. I would not want to use this for a heavily used public place, but it seems just fine for home use. I’m pleased with mine.

Screws, it’s made this way so the angle from the stairs can be matched, it’s very solid once the base is solidly screwed to the surface you’re mounting it on.

Mine was rounded on the ends, no end caps.

It's all metal and I really like the smoothness of it as your hand is on the railing when walking up or down the stairs.
