You could, but it would be pretty weird. It has a flange for mounting on a cabinet. You want to modify it.

I use it free standing under side of barbecue shelf. It tilts back about 3/4 inches but works fine.

Yes you could use as free standing. One note: The stainless steel is not the best quality.

In my opinion it's a built in unit but if you really wanted to I'm sure you could use it as a free standing unit. I would still put a case around it, you could easily build something out of wood.

About the Outdoor Kitchen Stainless Steel Double Access Drawer, it is better to use it built-in, stand-alone use is not very suitable.
