VEVOR Protein Skimmer for 106-185 Gal Saltwater Aquariums In Sump with Pump, Protein Skimmer with DC Pinwheel Pump, Adjustable Control, for 106-185 Gal Saltwater Aquarium & Reef Tank, In Sump Use Only

DC Pinwheel Pump Makes Fine Bubbles for Strong Waste Removal

This unit uses a DC pinwheel pump to effectively force air through the water so that compounds stick to the bubbles and rise into the cup. The pinwheel chops the incoming air into dense, fine bubbles, which give a skimmer its effectiveness. More waste is removed before it degrades and clouds the water because more, smaller bubbles provide dissolved organic waste with more surface area to adhere to.

Because a large system generates more waste, that removal capacity is even more important in a large tank. This pump has a maximum air intake of 600 L/H, which is sufficient to maintain a robust bubble column in a large aquarium. The result is clearer water and less stress on the rest of your filtration system. Fish and corals sensitive to waste buildup will also benefit from cleaner water.

Built for 106-185 Gallon Large Saltwater and Reef Tanks

Large saltwater systems, specifically tanks with capacities between 106 and 185 gallons, or 400 and 700 liters, are the target market for this skimmer. That is a significant amount of water, and the organic load a tank that size produces requires a skimmer capable of handling it. An undersized skimmer cannot process enough water to keep a large tank clean, so it's crucial to match the skimmer to your water volume.

The performance metrics reflect that scale. The skimmer can handle the waste output of a large tank with a maximum flow rate of 1500 L/H and a maximum air intake of 600 L/H. This unit keeps water clear for systems between 106 and 185 gallons. This is intended for larger reef and fish-only setups, not small or medium tanks, so check where your tank falls in that range.

In-Sump Protein Skimmer for Saltwater Tank Setups Only

Before buying, understand that this is an in-sump protein skimmer for saltwater tank systems. Instead of hanging on the back of the main aquarium, it sits inside your sump, with a separate filtration tank plumbed beneath the display. It requires a sump setup to operate because it cannot function as a hang-on unit.

Since most systems this size already have a sump, this requirement is rarely an issue for large tanks. By keeping the skimmer completely out of the display tank, it operates where the water is already being processed and does not obstruct the view. Additionally, in-sump skimmers typically handle higher volumes, making this unit well-suited for a large tank. This model depends on a sump, so make sure you have space for one before ordering.

10 Speed Settings with Feed and Power-Outage Delay Modes

The included controller gives you precise control over how hard the skimmer runs with 10 speed settings. Adjusting the output in ten steps lets you customize the skimmer to your specific conditions, since a large tank's needs vary by maturity and stocking level. When the system settles, you can either ease it back or run it harder on a heavily stocked tank.

Two additional modes enhance convenience and security. To prevent stirred-up food and waste from instantly overflowing the cup, Feed Mode stops the skimmer while you feed the tank. When the power goes out, Power Outage Delay Mode helps the skimmer restart smoothly rather than surge and overflow. You can adjust foam height by fine-tuning the skimmer's position in the water with the water level control knob. For added peace of mind, it also includes overflow protection.

850 ml Cup and Air Silencer on This Skimmer for Saltwater Tank

With a capacity of 28.74 ounces, or 850 ml, the collection cup on this protein skimmer for saltwater tank use is ideal for a large tank. Because a larger tank generates more waste, the cup may fill faster, so you should check it regularly. The cup comes off for cleaning, so you can easily lift it off, dump it, rinse it, and replace it.

Additionally, the pump is easy to disassemble for maintenance, which matters because skimmers can eventually clog in the pinwheel. Being able to pull it out for a quick clean keeps performance consistent and the bubbles fine. The design includes an integrated air silencer that muffles the air intake, which is typically the loudest component of a skimmer. This skimmer can be operated and maintained with minimal attention, thanks to its large cup, easy-to-clean pump, and silencer.

Quiet 40 dB Protein Skimmer for Saltwater Tank Reef Systems

This protein skimmer for saltwater tank systems reduces noise to about 40 dB, which is about as quiet as a library. Noise is a serious concern for equipment that operates continuously. The integrated air silencer muffles the hiss of the air intake that makes many skimmers unpleasant to live with. That quiet operation is easy to appreciate for a unit that operates around the clock.

Because the skimmer is located in a sump, typically in a cabinet or a room near a living area, it matters even more. You get tired of hearing a loud skimmer droning in a stand all day and night, and you might be tempted to run it less than you should. By keeping it quiet, you can run it continuously as needed without it becoming background noise. Low-noise operation is a real advantage for a large reef system in or close to a residential area.
