Bought it to set fence posts. But it made planting 40 bare root trees very easy. I would recommend this tool.

I finally got a chance to use this auger. I bought it a while back but it's just been sitting in the box. To be honest, I didn't expect much because of it being electric and relatively inexpensive, but I was sure pleasantly surprised! It took less that 20 minutes (including my unproductive, mulling-it-over time) and I had eight 30" deep holes dug. WOW! I just went easy; pulled it out every time I felt resistance, and bored all the holes in no time. I'm going to get a 10" bit for it soon. Reading from others (about the gas augers) if you go in first with the smaller bit then the larger one is much easier. I would highly recommend this item. No hard-to-start motors! You only need a HD extension cord. I used a 12ga and it worked fine. It would not be advisable to use it with a small gauge cord. I am GLAD that I bought this auger.

It’s okay
If you think you might hit roots or gravel. Get the gas one with more torque. It does real good with just regular dirt or sand. So far it’s been just ok

Very decent for the price
I found this quite effective for what i needed. I digging post holes for 5x5 square fence posts (big I know, long story). It went through the soil in my backyard pretty easily. I didn't really have any problems with it. It lacks a reverse, which would be nice but so long as you're not going crazy, it's fine. Just pull it back a little every so often to keep the soil loose. If you just let it go, it will bury itself and get stuck. I did have to dig it out once but only once after putting in 8 posts. Every other time i used it, it worked like a charm.TLDR; Good Auger, Lacks a reverse, but so long as you pull it out every so often you won't need one.

Perfect for clay
Live in Texas with clay soil. Took me half a day to dig hole by hand. 18 x 24 x 30. About 30 minutes using auger. Drilled multiple holes to break up the clay and shoveled it right out.

Self-train carefully, start small, powerful and can cause an injury
I errored by digging too deep before I understood to start with small holes and not dig deep.Shovel dirt from the hole. I needed three to four-foot holes. I learned to dig no deeper than a foot or so to begin.Practice with shallow before deeper.Shovel dirt from the hole; then dig with the machine again until the desired depth. Shovel loose dirt from holes.Digger is a powerful tool that can twist powerfully and break free from the user's grasp. It can be dangerous.

Worked great
Used this to dig 12 post holes in Georgia clay. Had no issue using the tool and when it did get caught on a rock it didnt dislocate my arm. Would buy it again, cleaner and cheaper than buying a gas one from harbor freight.

Worked well
I used this today to dig some postholes, and it worked well. I have a layer of hard packed clay in the soil here and it can take me up to 2 hours to dig a hole by hand. Once you hit the clay you have to just use the weight of the machine to carve away at it, or it will stop if you put any additional pressure on it. It has some kind of internal clutch that will let it slip, so you don't hurt yourself if it gets bound up. I used a Sawzall to cut any roots I ran into. One of the holes didn't have a clay layer and it took about 1 minute to go 30 inches. I'm happy with it. Good deal.
