Don’t know why the bad reviews. You do need to wire it correctly, not great instructions.
Inexpensive, checking the internal wiring is fairly easy. Must have 6ga 3 wire cable from a 50a 220v connection. The slip connectors ID that were included do fit the OD of std 1 1/2” sched 40 PVC. Then easy to use a 1 1/2” to 2” slip adapter for std 2” sched 40 PVC most pool systems use. It’s 11kW, so it has two 5.5kW heating elements. For 220v US wiring from a pigtail you must connect the two large gauge wires (actually 4 wires, but each element has a 110v line for 220v. It has no neutral wire, so on a GFCI circuit you cannot connect ground to its grounding location or you’ll toast it. Neutral goes to ground. If you touch ground to the unit you’ll trip the GFCI so no ground, neutral is grounded and the GFCI is working. It heated up well, and not sure why others say if the pump turns off the heater fails. My pump shut itself off by itself (even though it was on manual run after 24hrs). And the heater shut down as expected. I turned the pump back on after I noticed it shut off. The heater kicked back on, and it even held its temp settings. Perhaps others switched it off at the breaker, but it keeps settings when the switch on the unit is turned off. If shut off at the breaker that may lose settings. But it is still energized if the switch on the unit is off. For me, it’s been worth it for the price. Will see how it holds up with time.

Good unit for the price. Instructions suck.
Overall this is a good unit; however, the instructions are not very goodly wrote (see what I did there....). I have attached an image of the proper way to wire the unit, along with the correct gauge wiring and proper circuit breaker configuration. You are welcome to contact my friend at jayski1642@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Unit works well at a great price (Oct. 2020)
Unit works very well. Try and install in an area where you have lots of working room. Tight spaces make plumbing and electrical work difficult. The unit does not appear to be CSA approved. This could make it difficult to get a licensed electrician to install the unit in Canada. Having said that, the unit appears well made. Hopefully the safety features work as required when necessary. Price is excellent compared to what you could pay for one of these units. If your water supply has lots of minerals in it, you may want to consider a sediment filter on the supply line. This could greatly extend the life of the unit.

great steam
Makes a lot of steam and fast. Hook up was simple have only used once after install, but is working great.

This works better than I could have ever imagined
I installed this as a steam whole house humidifier. I wired it to a relay and low voltage contactor to make it come on when the furnace comes on. It works great and will bring the humidity up in the whole house very quickly. Excess condensate in the line causes a lot of burping of hot water rather than steam. I installed a drip line just before the head, that seemed to really help.

Size the room and power needed before selecting the steam unit
This is the biggest bang you'll get for the money! I initially bought the 9kw for a small enclosed shower (overseas where 220v is common), and the only issue I had was that i didn't think about the power rating!! 9kw needed a big circuit breaker!! I got it to work and the steamer was oversized :) :) heated that small shower in about 10min!! The install (besides the additional breaker and runing new cables) was straight forward, the cables are made in a way so can't connect them wrong (temp sensor, control unit, etc). Now that I'm back in the US, i picked up another unit and although i have a larger shower ( being converted into a steam room), i went for a smaller unit (learned my lesson) so i don't have to run new wiring, but instead I'll be taping into the electric range power cable (just won't be able to cook and steam at the same time ;). Again, great value and so far worked great ( I update once i install the smaller unit)
