This splitter is going to save my back!! It’s so easy to use and I wished I had it years ago!

I really like this wood splitter. Its perfect for splitting up the pecan for my outdoor cooking. Its also going to be really handy this winter when its time to make the syrup!This wood splitter is also great to take along with you camping.

I got this to replace an old manual log splitter that I HATED with a passion. This thing is a million times better. I used it today to split up several logs into smaller pieces and kindling pieces. It was super easy. The only trouble I had was with the larger logs. The initial split in half is a lot harder. Once you have smaller pieces to work with, it becomes much easier. I recommend for the larger pieces, once you get it started, flip it upside down and slam the rig down on top of the log. Made it much easier to make that initial split.I wish I had this years ago, makes things so much easier! Love it!

My neighbor rushed over to see it when he seen me setting it up. Showed him the safety features like the strong metal construction. How the blade is far from the safety ring on top. The inverted "v" helps prevent kick back by "grabbing" into both edges. He then grabbed the worst twisted and knotted fireplace wood I have ever seen. A couple wacks later and the wood was split. We then tried a straight piece to see how small you could effectively make pieces of kindling. We were amazed both tests passed with flying colors. If you have a wood burning stove or fireplace or anything you need to split up kindling for, then get this. I am thinking not only would this be great for home use but also for camping. All the kids want to split firewood. I get nervous letting the children use my axe and slightly guilty to tell them "no" especially when they are older. With this device they can join in splitting kindling with almost no danger of hurting themselves and I can put the axe away. Just put the wood in the top circle, use both hands on the sledge hammer a pound or two and its done. The only downside is now all my neighbors want to borrow it.

Using this tool is much easier than trying to split wood with only an axe. It's also safer. The construction is very stout. It's one piece welded, and the frame is solid round bars, not hollow tubes. For extra security, you can also bolt the base down to a tree stump. Very happy with this.

We have a Northern Michigan getaway in the middle of the woods, where we enjoy using fallen wood as fuel for campfires. We don't need large pieces of firewood as would be appropriate for heating, we just enjoy the recreational aspect of a crackling campfire. This is just the ticket for reducing the size of the raw-cut branches to a more usable dimension, as well as further splitting it to kindling to start the fires.We'd already obtained a similar product from another vendor, but I was a bit undecided whether its size would be suitable for our use, despite the fact that it was sturdy and worked very well in my initial testing. When I saw this one, there was little doubt that it is a better choice, due to its larger size.It stands 5" taller than our other one, and has a 9" opening, two inches larger than the smaller splitter. This may not sound like much of a difference, but seeing the two side-by-side illustrates that we won't have to restrict the size of the limbs to the same degree we would to use on the smaller one. The accompanying picture shows the difference in size between the two. I've obscured the other device by coloring it blue, but the relative sizes are accurate.This one has a V-shaped cutting blade, which starts the split from the outside of the piece, rather than the center, as do most similar devices. It remains to be seen as to whether this is an advantage over the other type. It appears to be sturdy, with good quality welds, so I expect to get a satisfactory service life from it.I like the fact that it can be attached to a stump or platform for permanent use, and also comes with a cover, although it's doubtful that the inexpensive vinyl will hold up season-after-season.We'll have to wait for next spring to take it up north for the trial-by-fire, but I have tested it a bit here at home. Maybe we'll enjoy a fire in the fireplace during the upcoming Christmas season!

I had high hopes for this splitter as a portable, use anywhere splitter. But to to frank, unless you have it mounted on a stump or other firm structure you will be hard pressed to split whole logs.The concept of the splitter is great. Place you piece of wood over the v-shaped blade, give it a whack, and voila, you have split wood. In part, this is true for most species of wood.The manufacturer mentions you can use this anywhere. They even have a picture of it next to the fireplace. Do not use this inside, unless you do not like your floor. The energy transferred from your hammer, through the wood, to the floor, will eventually damage the floor.To properly use this splitter you must bolt it to a fixed structure (like a tree stump). If you don't do that, there will be too much vibration in the splitter, and that translates to wasted energy. Don't try to anchor this to hard dirt or grass, again there will be too much vibration.My first test was trying to split some already split Hotwood brand firewood. These are dried pine alder, and spruce, that has been split already. This splitter had no problem splitting those pieces even further. Then I tried a dried log of birch (cut a year ago). The log was about 3-4" in diameter. The splitter had troubled catching on, but after a dozen whacks it was split. For my last test I tried a green piece of birch cut just a month ago. The splitter barely made a dent.From the tests, I can see this splitter works great on dried split wood. Whole logs and green wood is a different story. The birch log that was not dried may haver been an unfair test, but I wanted to see its limit. Birch is pretty hard and I wanted to see how it would perform. Not having the splitter bolted to a firm hard base probably played a major role, but if that is a requirement, then this splitter (and all others in this category) should not be considered portable.

Excellent job. This is a helpful tool for a female friend who has never chopped kindling before, Exactly as described. We'll built and sturdy enough for all your kindling chopping. White oak and hickory are no match. Would recommend this product to anyone who needs to keep their fireplace in working order.
