It is heavy, so pick a place and put it there. Keep the wood burning below the rim and the vents unplugged for smoke free fires. If you keep a waterproof cover on it the inside will not rust. Smoke free pits do lose a lot of heat straight up so you need to sit a little closer if it’s heat you want. I put a 16 inch square brick under it to protect my patio paint. Definitely do this if you are using it on a deck. This pit was 1/3 the price of a Solo stove. You can put a grate on the top to cook or control sparks. Same fun, less cost.
