Seems To Be Very Good Quality Smaller Beehive But Frames Should Be Glued!!!
Ok so I am totally a new Bee Ha Ha to this hobby and felt this is a good entry level hive. The hive was very well packaged and received no damage at all. The outer frame has a good thick coating of wax on it and the frame when together well. The inner sections while stated no glue is needed is hard to believe because you will need to either nail it or glue it. The inner frames will not stay together without one or the other. I choose to use waterproof wood glue. The entire hive went together very well and should hold up to several years out in the weather. No just got to get some bees to do some work..Hope this helps and thanks..
Impressed with the wood quality. Frames were easy to assemble once I had one or two under my belt. At the advice of other beekeepers, we drilled 1/4 inch holes in the upper corners of each frame to allow bee passage.
Well made hive boxes. Went together quickly and easily. Natural flaws in the wood had been patched with wood filler and sanded smooth. Joints were accurate and tight. Holes were pre-drilled for screws. Lid, cover board and bottom board are all solid and well made. Over all a top quality bee hive. I was impressed when the first one came so I bought a second one. It's just as good. Well pleased.
Unfortunately, the item was never delivered and a completely unrelated item was shipped by mistake in its place.
When I called the agent to have the correct item shipped it was apparently out of stock to they provided a complete refund. Everything went smoothly and I was satisfied with the ultimate results.
When the box arrived. I saw it had contact information in England, Germany and as well in China. It was made in China. Surprise!! But you could deduct it might also be sold in Europe. What made me believe it is a good quality product. The manual was in color and had good quality and only in English. I was expecting German and Chinese as well. The hive is good in general. It also has a queen excluder and an entrance reducer. It was very easy to assemble. You need a rubber mallet to put the boxes together. I really liked the dovetail feature as other mentioned on their reviews. They even provide the nails to secure the frames. You don't need anything else but a hammer and a rubber mallet. Most ppl will be very happy with it. I prefer a screened bottom board. This one comes with a solid bottom board. So I had to buy one, also a hive stand. The observatory window is just on one side of the box. I was expecting to be on both sides like the Flowhive. The observation windows, aka window, was the feature that made me go for this product. It also has some openings. Take a look at the picture. I have mixed feelings about it. It might help to ventilate the hive during the summer. But I am afraid beetles, ants and other insects might get in. A strong hive can defend itself, a weaker one .... The frames are good. Also the waxed foundations. I like to have a wedged top bar frame. Where the bees build their own comb. I try not to use the foundations. Unfortunately, you can't modify those here. So I had to buy those too. As I mentioned, this hive is complete and you can start beekeeping right away. I got a hive stand, screened bottom board and wedged top bar based on my preference. You don't need it.
One Medium Sized Broad Box, Ten Frames And Foundations
This is one medium sized broad box, not a typical Langstroth deep. There are ten small cell, black plastic foundations that are covered in a thin layer of beeswax. I had better success with the small cell but I switched to all natural beeswax foundations because I noticed that one of my hives was not filling out the black foundation completely. Not all of my hives behaved that way so it's just trial and error which foundation you and the bees like to work with.
Compared to the many hive boxes I have purchased, these boxes with frames are an amazing bargain!!! Fast Delivery, Easy to assemble, no painting required, no waxjng of foundation required! Great for viewing your bees with minimal disturbance, i will continue to buy these hives as long as they are available!
