We've been wondering about a soda maker for a while, and this was a great price. It came with 2 "water bottles" for carbonating and one /empty/ CO2 cylinder. Why don't they ship it full? I'm not sure - you can do online replacements, and those companies ship the tanks full. Maybe there are some restrictions on long-term storage, or shipping in particular means, etc. Found a local welding-supply store that also supplies local breweries to fill the cylinder, and we were in business! You want to use beverage-grade CO2 to avoid off-flavors. Food-grade can be for things like dry ice. But most of that is apparently just paperwork. YMMV. You want to only carbonate clear water - no flavorings. Cold water takes the bubbles best, and filtered water avoids other flavors messing up your chosen beverage flavoring. Fill the water bottle between the min and max lines (so the carbonation nozzle will be in the water, and so it won't splash water out when you carbonate it). This doesn't need any electricity - it just operates with the pressure of the CO2 tank. After installing the CO2 cylinder and screwing in the water bottle, press the button for up to 5 seconds to carbonate. After about 5 seconds, the unit will make a squealing noise - that's the pressure release valve. Release the button. If you want extra carbonation, you can repeat. Then add your desired flavoring - we're trying the various powdered water enhancers. They dissolve best if I add the carbonated water to the container with the flavoring. We like the self-contained unit with the "60L" cylinders (enough CO2 to carbonate 60 liters of water). I'll probably buy a few more to have on hand while waiting to refill the others. The other approach would be to get a "5-pound" CO2 container and an adapter. It would probably be convenient and cheaper to not need to refill as often, but it's pretty nice to just have the self-contained, portable unit.

My son wanted a SodaStream and I checked Vevor and ordered the machine because it came with 2 bottles and 2 cylinders. I went to my local airgas location to see if they filled the smaller CO2 cylinders and they said the smallest was their 5lb cylinders. So I purchased one from them to refill the Vevor cylinders. I ordered the adapter to refill on Amazon. Being impatient I traded in one of my Vevor cylinders for a full SodaStream Blue Cylinder at Kohls. I found that the soda stream cylinders are not a perfect fit for the Vevor machine but it worked. One advise I will give you is to make sure the white nozzle is on tight and to refill and use the Vevor cylinders only. The SodaStream one works but you have to push the button extra hard and results aren’t as good. Vevor should really sell the adapter and provide instructions to help people refill as it was hard figuring out how to refill these cylinders. But having said all that my son spent his Birthday showing his friends how to make custom sodas with Torani and SodaStream flavors.

You get the carbonated, two co2 tanks and the bottle, all gor the same price as you'd pay for the two co2 tanks. The fit and finish is good, though it does feel light and a little plasticky. Also the bottle fits in most drink holders in a car very happy with that!

What type of metal does the water come in contact with, and is the bottle glass?

There is no metal that the water can touch, only the nozzle and the water bottle. The nozzle is made of POM and the water bottle is made of PET, both of which are food grade.
