I liked this unit so much, I bought a second one. The first one replaced another unit with the filter/element style that wicks up water. I got tired of replacing the elements a couple times each winter at $15 apiece. This humidifier doesn't use elements, so in the long run (assuming it runs a long time), it won't cost as much to own.
This thing puts out a LOT of mist...so much, that you don't want the output pointed at a wall from a short distance, or it will be wet. Also, gravity will take the mist to the floor, so if you have things sitting around the humidifier, they can get wet if the mist setting is on high. I like the UV to keep things clean and the remote is nice. Performance-wise, this is the most potent humidifier I've owned, and with over 5 gallons capacity, it will go quite awhile between refills.
Only real critique is the filling process. While you can fill it through the top without disassembling anything, it would be a pretty slow process to pour 5 gallons through such a small hole. The unit comes with an accessory that looks sort of like a means to refill through a sink or faucet, but the instructions give no explanation for what this piece is or how to use it. I have been removing the upper part of the humidifier to fill the reservoir, which is tricky because there's a bit of water remaining it the upper part. It only drains out if the upper part is tilted at the correct angle. If you refill using a bucket, make it a 5-gallon bucket. Another small nitpick is the temperature display - I'm a Fahrenheit kind of guy, and this one shows it in Celsius. If there's a way to switch it, I haven't figured it out.
Overall, this is a solid humidifier that gets us through dry winters. Only thing keeping this from 5 starts is the refill process, which may not be fair because just about all of them involve manual labor. But that's ok...I need the exercise.
